I drew up my resume after my engineering and in the “hobbies” section; I mentioned that I like to read “self-help” books. One of my friends commented on it saying that you should not mention that on your resume as this may mean that you are not confident enough and that you take support from self help books all the time. Well, I didn’t understand the logic behind it, but then I deleted it from my resume.
I prefer self improvement books to real life novels and stories. I love reading autobiographies. This is something different from others of my generation. Or you may not have people like me around, people who have interests like me. Does that mean I should change my interests?
I read “Jonathan Livingston Seagull” at some point in my life. I couldn’t understand the story. I read it the first time. This is not news! But all I could understand is that there is something inside of me. So I read it again; And then I used to read it again when I used to feel less sure about the things in life. The story really inspired me a lot in my life. Somewhere I used to relate to him because he had different interests and since he stayed with himself, understood his interests and tastes, one day people like him came.
The same happened to me. I enjoyed reading self-help books. They really helped me. Books and association have made today a different personality, different from those of my time. This difference has greatly impacted my career.
My life is different today. I can see things that others cannot. Things have made my life much better than it could have been. The outlook on life has really changed now. It wasn’t that easy. I had to fight inside. Winning the internal fight has made me win every time in my life.
When you are alone on the journey, you really feel bad, you feel very bad. But once you keep moving forward, people join you. Some follow you and choose you to be their leader! The point to note here is that at this point you have to be sure that you are on the right track. If you are not sure what you are doing wrong with the people who trust you and who have chosen to follow you.
The Britt Association has given me this faith. This partnership, the CDs, and the books have given me the power and confidence to lead. I am on the right track and I can lead people on the right track. I was less confident about this at work and used to feel really bad when I used to direct people to the path where I was least confident. But life is great now! All the answers are here and life is great to live with new challenges and wonderful fights (first from the inside!)
