The Basics: Before embarking on any endeavor, think about your basic tools. Obviously any business now will require a good computer and internet connection, a set up office, etc., but what about the mental tools that we need to take with us to get started?
These are the first three that I believe are the most important in creating a successful, long-term, well-formulated, Internet-based home retail business.
– The Vision: Your vision is the “aha!” Moment of clarity that you have with yourself as a web entrepreneur who speaks to you, financially, emotionally, before, during or after a product or products have been decided to market. The power of vision is incredible! Have positive thoughts. According to many sociologists, the success of any culture and organization depends on the collective vision of its future. We will talk more in future articles about the vision that you must have near and dear to your heart to endure the many hurdles and obstacles that are sure to come your way as an online retailer. Your passion for this vision can be such a motivating force that it will allow us to live our imagination … not our memory.
If you are trying to start a home or retail business for the sole purpose of making money, you are likely to fail, emotionally at least, because your heart will not be in it and your inspiration will be forced.
Our next article will talk more about the Vision and its relationship to your success as an Internet-based business.
– Your mission. The mission is the set of actions by the internet retailer, home based or not. Every business requires those actions that make ideas and dreams come true. Missions should be clearly defined, easy to understand, and should be your mantra during the workday. They are the path to entrepreneurship, web retail, and internet business. We’ll talk more about mission statements later in this series. Mission statements can be easy; they should guide the actions of the organization. A mission statement is a short, formal, and written statement about the purpose of a business or organization. Explain your overall goal and provide a sense of direction. It will be the framework for how you structure your day-to-day operations, your retail business, and your home business. We will discuss more mission statements and discuss mission statements from well-known companies in additional articles.
